Two years ago my life changed dramatically. I made a decision to leave the corporate world and pursue my passion - painting. It meant I had to sell my house, in a nice little pocket of Toronto, where I had lived for the better part of 20 years. I had bought the house at a good time and needed to leverage the equity built up in my house to start my new journey. Friends and family were amazingly supportive. No one told me I was crazy...I kept waiting for it, but it didn't happen. I am sure there were those that thought I was, but they wisely stayed silent.
I had taken courses here and there, but a busy job with a lot of travel meant I never got to really focus on painting for any length of time. Hard to get focused on a painting in between pack and unpacking bags. I was in my early 50's...too early to retire and honestly not enough money to do so if I wanted to...(my family tends to live into their 90's - that is 40 years to support myself - longer than I have actually worked!). The day I made the decision, I painted this abstract - which is still one of my favourite paintings. To me it captures a sense of joy, brightness, movement and freedom.
Decision is one thing..then selling a house, buying a house...moving...took me about a year to get myself sorted out. And then 2017 became the year that I truly started my dream.
Painting isn't 9 - 5, Monday to Friday. For me it is always there - whether I am working on a painting, looking to other artists for inspiration, lying in bed at night thinking of new ideas, thinking of how to get my art out there, building websites, and then back to painting. It is truly awesome!
So here I am! Website up and running...a body of work I have developed and so many ideas and lists of projects to work on it is overwhelming. I am so excited about what I can accomplish - the lovely thing about painting is there is no retirement age - I can keep on doing this for as long as I am able. And the thing is - I am doing what I love - so incredibly blessed. I also know that everything that I did before I arrived here was part of my journey and I am grateful and thankful for all the lessons and experiences and people along the way.
I hope that you will come along for my journey and one day maybe see something that speaks to you and belongs with you.
Multi-passionate artist. I need and love to explore the world in my paintings both from a realistic perspective through to abstract. It is an exciting and satisfying journey that I am on, and I hope that you connect to the joy and love and wonder that I feel when I paint and try to capture some of the essence of this amazing world.
