This exploration of a red poppy is for sale at the Art Gallery of Burlington for their annual Christmas show. Sale starts today and goes until Sunday, November 25th.
I also have some smaller pieces of my African animals in the "Fireside Room".
Great show. Lots to see. Great selection of items for Christmas gifts.
I started painting animals of Africa and thought I would tire of it eventually, and maybe I will. But here I am almost a year later and I am still painting African animals. I started with giraffe's and now I am spending time with elephants. I love changing up the colours and seek to convey the texture of their skin without going into crazy fine detail. I read something this week that saddened my heart. World Wildlife Fund tweeted that about 60% of the global animal population has been wiped out because of humans. This was followed by news that China has lifted the ban on using Rhino horns and tiger bones for medicinal purposes. In a time where enormous efforts are being made to protect animals from poachers, this is only going to increase all the gains that have been made by these efforts. This breaks my heart, and so I will continue to paint these amazing animals and hope to bring attention to these issues.
Multi-passionate artist. I need and love to explore the world in my paintings both from a realistic perspective through to abstract. It is an exciting and satisfying journey that I am on, and I hope that you connect to the joy and love and wonder that I feel when I paint and try to capture some of the essence of this amazing world.
